This project started a few years ago in 2016, when I made a similar Christmas stocking for my mother-in-law, Ferne.
She had recently become very much in love with all things “Steampunk”, so I fashioned a Victorian lady’s boot – style stocking which was ornamented with various cog-style buttons.
This year, I decided it was finally time to make a pair of “boots” for our own enjoyment and what better double use of the project than document the steps for you!!
Here’s a pdf of the outline/pattern that I made.
Each boot is made up of a “shell” and a contrasting piece.
The gent’s boot is outlined with a diamond, the lady’s with a circle.
If you’re using Adobe Reader, you can select “Poster” in the print dialog box to print it across 4 pages.
I used just the one pattern and folded it to switch from one pattern to another.
When it came time to cut the contrasting fabric, I used paper and pencil to trace the necessary outline, rather than further folding my pattern.
You could always print multiple copies if you need.
Once taped together, just follow the construction process as I detail in my video below.
Note: I didn’t include any seam allowances in my pattern. While I cut on the pattern line in making the video, I did find that the toes of the boots came out slightly more narrow than I might have liked.
When I made another set, I will cut a bit further away from the outline and stitch on the pattern line.
